Matthew Cohen & Associates began as Cohen and Company and has been developed by my family over the past two generations. Based in Aberdeen, we specialise in property law, estate agency, immigration and private client services. We believe the best option for people seeking legal advice is to turn to a team of people who will get to know you and who you can grow to trust. This is what we offer at Matthew Cohen & Associates.
We believe our first meeting should be an opportunity for us to get to know your situation and for you to set your expectations. We have found that a simple, friendly discussion to help everyone understand the situation in hand leads to a productive relationship.
If you don’t understand what a lawyer is talking about, then how can you reach a fully informed decision? We aim to be accessible and accountable. We will take you through every stage of the process, helping you to understand exactly what is happening.
We want our clients to feel like they have the knowledge they need to ask informed and focused questions. This often leads to new evidence or information. By sharing knowledge, we are able to understand each other’s motivations and plan our strategy more effectively and more efficiently.
Matthew is the owner and the director of the company, following in his father’s footsteps.
Matthew has a strong belief in creating an environment where clients feel comfortable. He leads the firm in presenting legal issues to their clients in a practical and clear manner, ensuring that they have full understanding. He also likes to think laterally to resolve problems for clients in an imaginative way as well as demonstrating his strong negotiating skills.
Matthew is married with one daughter and away from the practice, he enjoys reading and playing cricket.

Vikas is a qualified lawyer in Scotland, England & Wales as well as in India, and so is able to work across a variety of different legal jurisdictions. He specialises in immigration cases and has an extensive knowledge of European Law and Human Rights law and regularly appears before the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunals at Glasgow for immigration appeals. His published article and published cases can be found on our immigration page. He is also using his litigation experience to deal with Sheriff Court cases in Scotland.
British lawyers are not eligible to practice law in India. Hence, British companies can turn to Aberdeen for legal representation, instead of using them as middlemen to engage Indian law firms for their services.
